Neil Kearney, An extraordinary man, an extraordinary life
After the sudden death of Neil Kearney General Secretary of the ITGLWF in November 2009 the ITGLWF announced the creation of a memorial fund in Neil’s honour.
Following a meeting of its Executive Committee on the 20th September 2010, the ITGLWF wishes to announce the following.
Details of the Neil Kearney Memorial Fund
The Neil Kearney Memorial Fund is created by the ITGLWF but shall be an independent body.
All funds donated to the Neil Kearney Memorial Fund will be used solely for the purposes of administering the fund and providing funding to successful applicants.
Neil Kearney Memorial Fund Board Members:
The board of the Fund shall consist of Mrs Jutta Kearney-Zimmermann, the ITGLWF President, and the ITGLWF General Secretary.
Aims of the Fund:
The Fund aims to provide support to individuals, trade unions and NGOs which:
- 1) promote the rights of all working people and their families;
- 2) have been exposed to events damaging their living and/or working conditions;
- 3) defend the causes which Neil held dear to his heart;
- 4) work on other relevant issues in the textile, garment, shoe, leather and other light industries.
Applying for Funding
Only persons, trade unions or NGOs which meet the aims of the Fund may be considered for a subsidy from the Fund.
The maximum subsidy per year will amount to €10,000 per person, trade union or NGO.
Subsidized organisations, trade unions and NGOs will have to report regularly on the use of the funds granted by the Fund.
The Fund’s reporting year shall be the calendar year.
All proposals or funding requests must be presented in written form.

Donating to the Neil Kearney Memorial Fund:
The Fund may receive donations from unions, corporations, institutions, the private sector and individuals.
