21 Garment Workers Die as Bangladesh Government Fails to Learn from Mistakes of the Past
At least 21 workers have been killed in a fire at the Garib & Garib Sweater Factory in Gazipur, Bangladesh. A further 50 workers are suffering from burns or smoke inhalation. According to the company’s website, Garib & Garib Sweater Factory is manufacturing for H&M, Otto, 3Suisses International, Pimkie, TechTextile Russia, Provera and Mark’s Work Wearhouse, and has previously supplied Littlewoods, Lindex, JC Penney and Wal Mart.

ITGLWF Working to Shape a Response to Support Haitian Garment Workers

In the wake of the tragic earthquake that has devastated Haiti, the ITGLWF is working with the international trade union movement and with other players in the sector to shape a response in the short-,  medium- and longer-term for garment workers and their families.

BBC Programme Featuring the Late Neil Kearney Airs on BBC Radio Four

On Sunday January 24, BBC Radio Four’s In Business feature is ‘Ready to Wear’,  a moving programme about efforts by the ITGLWF and the Spanish retailer Inditex to improve working conditions in Bangladesh.  What makes ‘Ready to Wear’ so deeply poignant is the fact that it tracks Neil’s activities on the last day of his life.
